Flew at this cute little airfield owned by the city and shared GA / gliding ops. Once you have flown here they say you have your carrier rating as the field is on an island not much bigger than the runway! Low rope break option is the river on 26 - on 08 there is a landable paddock just on the far side. Generally there are virtually no landing options within 10 miles of the airfield - it is all city and trees. Tow out was over the highrises of downtown Knoxville. They have a fantastic ridge 10 miles from the airfield which runs up the Appalachians for hundreds of miles and is soarable all the way. Unfortunately it wasn't on the day I flew. There is a lot of commercial traffic flying in and out of the main airport just a few miles south, right up to 777 size. They fly in VFR directly over the gliding club at 3000-4000ft. I got up to about 5500 so they were below and off to the side. I had a couple pretty close to me and wouldn't want to fly there again without a transponder. Great folks, very friendly and accommodating.
